Setup your new HMD OffGrid device

Learn all the steps to setup the HMD OffGrid device and activate a satellite messaging subscription

Important: You need an active HMD OffGrid subscription and the HMD OffGrid app

to use the SMS messaging, location tracking, SOS functions and communication

features of the device. You can purchase a subscription from the app or by going

to offgrid.hmd.com

Download HMD OffGrid App

Scan the QR code that came with your HMD OffGrid device, or go to https://offgrid.hmd.com to get download the app. You can also search in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Create an account and activate your device

  1. Open the app, tap Sign Up, and follow the steps to set up your account.

  2. When prompted to activate the satellite connection, enter the activation code

    from the card provided in the box (ICCID number).

  3. Select the preferred data plan and complete the transaction.

Switch on and pair your device with the HMD OffGrid app

  1. Press and hold the power on/off button on your device until it vibrates. The

    power indicator light flashes blue three times.

  2. Press the power on/off button again to enter Bluetooth® pairing mode. When the

    device is in pairing mode, the power indicator light flashes blue.

  3. In the HMD OffGrid app, tap the Bluetooth icon.

  4. Tap Pair next to your HMD OffGrid device listed in Bluetooth devices.

  5. Tap Link to connect your device to your account.

Connect your HMD OffGrid device to satellite

Important: Connecting to a satellite requires a clear view of the sky. Avoid heavy coverage, such as tall buildings or trees.

  1. Open the HMD OffGrid app.

  2. Tap the Bluetooth icon to begin the connection process. If you are connecting

    your device to a satellite for the very first time, the process may take up to 10

    minutes. After the first connection, the process takes around 90 seconds.

  3. Successful connection is indicated in the app. The satellite indicator light on the

    device flashes green every 10 seconds when the connection is active.
